Donald L. Nuismer
Former Port Clinton resident Donald L. Nuismer, died Palm Sunday April 9, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 77. Don served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Francisco, CA. He served aboard the USS Tracer AGR-15, and patrolled the Pacific Ocean as part of the U.S. Early Warning System. The Captain said he had the best eyes on the ship. His experience is documented in the Veterans History Project in the Library of Congress.
He was born in Grand Haven, MI December 22, 1939. Don was son of the late Joseph A. Nuismer and Ruth (Olsen) Nuismer. He was previously married to Susan Lambert Keefer and they remained good friends.
Don was a devoted Father to twins Tracy (Nuismer) Hardy of Boynton Beach, FL and Laura (Nuismer) Duncan of Bayview, OH and loving Grandfather to Heather O’Keefe, Hillary New, both of Port Clinton, OH and Trey Hardy of Boynton Beach, FL. He also has brothers Larry Nuismer, John Nuismer, Tony Nuismer and Sister Joellen (Nuismer) Ririe. He is preceded by brother Robert Nuismer.
Don graduated from PCHS in 1958. He loved cars, clocks, and most of all, his family. He made friends and helped people everywhere he went. He courageously coped with Multiple Sclerosis for over 50 years.
