John Francis Colligan, “Jake”, passed away in his home on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
Jake was the oldest of five, born on February 8, 1948 in Bradford Pennsylvania. He graduated from Bradford Central Christian in 1966 and went on to served as a combat medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam war.
In 1972 he married the love of his life Margo at St. Bernards, Roman Catholic Church.
Both Jake and Margo were trained in the field of Nuclear Medicine in Hershey, Pa. They moved to sunny South Florida and had a daughter name Stephanie. In 2018, Jake became and grandfather and was proud to share his love of rock and roll with his grandson Matthew.
Jake was a lover of animals and the outdoors. He was a hunter and competitive sports fisherman. As the Captain of his boat “Jigs Up”, he caught a world record, Spanish mackerel, weighing in at 12 pounds off the coast of Ft. Pierce, Florida in 1984. He was also inducted into the IFGA Fishing Hall of Fame in Dania, Florida when it opened in 1998.
Jake was predeceased by his wife Margo, his parents, Jack and Patricia Colligan and his brother Michael Colligan.
He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Johnson , son-in-law Joshua, grandson Matthew, sisters, “Kitty”Colligan, “Minnie”Burns and brother Patrick “Coomie”Colligan, and their families.
Jake will receive full military honors and be laid to rest in the South Florida National Cemetery in West Palm Beach County Florida. This upcoming summer, his family will also host an Irish Wake as commemoration in his hometown of Bradford, Pa.
Jake had a naughty sense of humor, a contagious laugh and a sentimental heart. He will be missed by all those who loved him.
