Leo D Sand

March 28, 1945 — December 9, 2022

Leo Duane Sand died on December 9. 2022 peacefully at his home in Lake Worth, FL. He was 77 years old.

Born in 1945 in Iowa, where he was raised on a cattle ranch outside Cherokee. He attended high school in Cherokee, played football, baseball and competed in track & field. He attended the University of Iowa and later served in the military in Southeast Asia.

Leo worked as a General Contractor; as national VP of marketing with a membership campground company, and finally as owner/operator of Dive Charters International (DCI), a popular recreational scuba diving business in Boynton Beach, FL

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, he learned to hunt and fish at young age. Later in life, these sports would take him to wilderness areas across the world, Canada, Alaska and even Africa. After retiring, he and his wife Cathy began RV’ing across the United States visiting national parks and returning to his beloved mountains.

Leo is proceeded in death by his parents, Leon Sand and Phyllis Prather, his younger brother, Denny who died at age 2, and his older brother, Gary, who passed at age 45. He is survived by his wife Cathy, his sons and six grandchildren. In addition to his family, Leo is mourned by his two constant companions – a pair of Beagles named Kaylie & Fannie (also known as his “shadows”).
