Michael Joseph Roggin June 14, 1959- October 13, 2024
The family of Michael Joseph Roggin, announces his passing, after he braved serious health challenges in 2024.
After eight months of serious health problems, his condition overtook him and he passed away on the morning of October 13, 2024 at the age of 65.
Michael was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1959 in Dearborn, Michigan. He is predeceased by his father Joseph Allen Roggin and mother Jacqueline (DeNike) Roggin. Michael grew up in Redford Township, Michigan as the fourth child of five in the Roggin household. He was a 1977 graduate of Thurston High School and obtained his bachelor degree in Business Administration from Barry University in Miami, Florida.
Michael married Natali (Tatiana) in 2008, and together they raised two children: Esteban Michael and Raquel Dylan living in Boynton Beach, Florida. Michael’s son Zachary Michael Roggin lives in Jupiter, Florida with his wife Caitlin and their three children Chloe, Aubrey and Avery.
Mike’s career choices were motivated by a desire to help others. He was a United States Air Force veteran who proudly served his country as a Military Policeman from 1978 to 1980. He then joined the Police Academy in Lake Worth Florida before starting as a patrol officer with the West Palm Beach Police Department in 1981. Mike became an investigative detective working on several high profile cases that resulted in being on notable TV shows such as Geraldo Rivera. He was later promoted to Lieutenant and remained in that role until his retirement in 2011.
Michael had many talents and a strong determination to tackle all roadblocks. He started wrestling in middle school which continued into high school. He continued his passion for the sport and wrestled in the Police Olympics. Michael was captain of the Thurston High School Varsity football team and loved the attention he got from all the girls.
He was a huge fan of the Detroit Lions and loved nothing more than watching the Thanksgiving Day home game and enjoying the turkey dinner to follow. At Christmastime his deep singing voice charmed everyone with his rendition of Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer.
Mike was called “The Rock” by his friends. His athleticism was displayed in many ways. Neighbors from blocks away would wait for 4:00 to come to watch this 13 year old newsboy ride his unicycle past each house and throw the papers while never missing a front door.
His gregarious nature lit up every room he walked into. He loved to have fun, tease his sisters, tell a good story and was always the practical joker. Mike loved his many dogs throughout his life including Snoopy, Barry Sanders and Rinaldo.
Michael lovingly referred to his wife Natali as his “mi amor”.
In addition to his wife and children, Michael is survived by his stepson Mateo Galvis (Diana) and daughter Camila, his sisters Janice Godfrey, Melbourne Florida; Linda Milligan (Robert) Northville, Michigan; Cheryl Sinauskas (Dennis) Basking Ridge, New Jersey and brothers Jeffrey Roggin, Fenton, Michigan and Duane Fancher (Candis) Burnsville, Minnesota. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
A memorial for Michael will be held at 12:30 pm on December 6th, 2024 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth FL 33449-5309. Additional details will follow.
