Rex Baxter Jr. peacefully passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, Rex was the son of Rex B Baxter Sr. and Ina May Keeling.
He showed an early talent for golf, becoming part of the University of Houston golf team, which won the NCAA championship three years in a row. Rex was also a USGA Junior Champion and a Walker Cup Champion before serving in the military. Following his service, he enjoyed a nine-year career in professional golf, highlighted by winning the national PGA Club Professional Championship. After retiring from the tour, Rex continued to play golf passionately and shared his expertise as a teacher of the sport.
Rex is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jane Hill Baxter, his two sons, Rex B Baxter III and Theodore Hill Baxter, along with their wives and children. His step children, Denise Walker, Diane Swearingen, Scott Swearingen and their children were close in his family of puppies and children
He found joy in the simple pleasures of travel, literature, old movies, food, and music throughout his life, particularly his enthusiasm for the Dallas Cowboys. Golden Retrievers always had a special place in his heart. Rex will be remembered for his thoughtfulness and infectious grin.
Rex will be laid to rest in the South Florida National Cemetery
