Richard A. Mattheisz Sr., 97, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026. Born on June 24, 1928, in Baltimore, Maryland, Rich a proud World War II veteran lived a long, full life defined by love, loyalty, and kindness.
He was married for 76 wonderful years to the love of his life, Dorothy (Kit) Mattheisz, who predeceased him in December 2022 at the age of 93. Their marriage was a testament to devotion—steadfast, joyful, and deeply rooted in partnership.
Rich is survived by his three children—Richard Jr., Kimberly, and Scott—as well as six grandchildren and fourteen great‑grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his warmth, humor, and gentle ways.
He will be remembered for his lifelong passion for bowling and flying. He mentored not only bowlers but pilots as well, that built lifelong friendships through the flight training center he owned at Martin State Airport. Rich had a natural gift for helping others no matter how busy. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or brighten someone’s day with a friendly conversation. His generosity and kindness were instinctively effortless.
To everyone who knew Rich, he was an inspiration, approachable, caring, and endlessly supportive. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched with bowling, flying and simply being himself. Rich leaves behind a family who adored him. Also, a bowling and flying community that respected him, and held him in highest regards. His moto was "be the best at what you choose to do, have a passion for your work and have fun." May his memory prevail to all who knew him and loved him.
The burial was in the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth now together with Dorothy (Kit) the love of his life.
