Rose Dolgos

On September 26, 2017, Aunt Rose died peacefully at home with us. She went to join her brothers Alex, Lotzy, Mike and Whitey and her sister Margaret.
Rose was 90 years old and lived a full and enjoyable life. Rose lived in some part of 10 separate decades.
She was born in the Roaring 20’s and grew up in the recession years of the1930’s when no one failed to clean their plates at the dinner table. Rose’s teenage years were the WWII years when everyone supported the war effort, three of her brothers served in three different branches of the Armed Forces overseas and the fourth brother and sister worked in critical businesses to support the War effort at home. Then Rose spent more than 40 years on her working career in Manhattan that culminated in her position as an Executive Secretary at Johnson and Higgins insurance business. Rose loved to entertain and have dinner parties. She also loved to travel, go on cruises and of course shopping. When my daughter Kyra was seven years old Aunt Rose took her shopping and Kyra learned that ‘On Sale’ was good, ‘Reduced’ was better and ‘Clearance’ was best.
After retirement, Rose moved to Sarasota, Florida where she was near her Hungarian cousins, Jene and Mariska. She enjoyed the Hungarian community in Sarasota. Her favorite haunts were shopping trips to Tuesday Morning, Big Lots, Publix and of course the annual Lord and Taylor Clearance Sale.
For the last three and a half years, Rose moved to Boynton Beach on Florida’s Ease Coast to live with Lizzy and Wayne. She still enjoyed eating out, going to the therapeutic horse farm where Lizzy rides and Lizzy’s weekly scrabble games. When we had friends over to dinner, Aunt Rose would often say ‘that was a good Diner Party’. She loved our Quaker parrot, Charlie, who was her nurse bird, and she would watch TV with our cat April at night.
Rose is survived by 8 nieces and nephews and 25 grand and great grand nieces and nephews (excuse us if we are off on the count. Aunt Rose touched the lives of many and will be remembered fondly.
