Peacefully on June 23, 2023 Thomas Griggs past away, with the love of his life by his side Connie Sullender . He is survived by his two daughter's Renee Shipley and Dina Mattei of Sewell. Tom is predeceased by his beloved daughter Yvonne Marie Griggs. Tom is also survived by his four grandchildren Zack Shipley, Alaina Lydon, Connor & Calista Boxczyk. Tom is also survived by his caring brother Robert Griggs of Sicklerville. He is predeceased by his brother Joseph Griggs lll. Also survived by a niece and nephew. Born in South Philadelphia, he grew up in Blackwood NJ, Resided in Turnersville , he loved spending his summers in Marmora at his shore house which lead to his permanent move to Florida. Tom earned a one year scholarship in his junior year of high school from the Gloucester Township Teachers Association, for the first undergraduate Special Education program. He graduated from Glassboro State College in 1967. Tom had 2 master degrees one as an administrator also one in special education school information services. In 1971 Tom pioneered the first special education resource rooms out of the West Chester Intermediate School. In 1968 Tom Co-founded the first Boy Scout Troop in NJ for special education students. He was later principal at Logan Township, Franklin Township and Newfeild Schools, where he was honored for his work and commitment with Disabled Children.Also added to the Registry's Who’s Who Among Outstanding Americans in 1995. Toms favorite pass time was fishing, which lead to his recent move to Inner Costal Florida. Tom loved Sports, Baseball in particular. In 1957, Tom was talented enough to play for the All-Star NJ State team. Tom’s favorite thing of all was dancing, he won many dance contests when he was younger at all the local teen dance spots. Tom continued dancing weekly for the remainder of his life. Tom had many friends, relatives and touched many lives in his 78 years with us .
