Walter F Boyce

January 12, 1926 — June 21, 2019

Walter F. Boyce January 12, 1926- June 21, 2019

Walter passed away peacefully at the Gerstenberg Hospice center. He grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. During World War II, Walter served in Army intelligence as a German language expert at the age of 18. After the war, he returned to the University of New Hampshire to complete his chemistry degree and graduate studies. Walter joined the R.T. Vanderbilt chemical company in Norwalk, CT. working for 40 years as a research chemist and manager of the lab. At his home in Westport, Ct., he enjoyed gardening and tending his exotic trees and rare lilies. On summer weekends, his New York friends could often be found at his home enjoying Walt's hospitality. As a great fan of classical music and opera, he had a huge collection of bound works that he gave to the Westport library. When he retired to West Palm Beach, he quickly adopted the Florida life style... no more snow! For 15 years, he volunteered as a puppeteer for the Puppetry Arts Center in Delray, holding exciting shows for schoolchildren. He was an avid bridge player until his passing. In recent years, he kept in shape at the Y with the Silver Sneakers group where he made many friends. Walter was preceded in death by his brother Robert and sister Kathryn. His nieces, Carole Bentley, Peggy McDaniel Cheryl Boyce, and nephew, Michael Boyce, survive him.

Memorial Service will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Honor Flight of Southeast Florida. Walter was a veteran on a Honor Flight from PBI 2 years ago.
